Hi

I have seen a number of posts recentely from people just starting out with LLBLgen and the responses have been lacking in an understanding of how difficult the whole process is for someone new to O/RM.

I think a new forum is called for where people that are just staring out with LLBLgen, can ask questions and get good responses, that don't upset the regular users.

We were all new to programming at some time simple_smile

Could you give me some URLs please to threads where that's the case? We try to be as helpful as possible.

LLBLGen Pro comes with a 400 page manual and an extensive Concepts section. That section is there for a reason: to give people a background in why the system is designed the way it is. Of course this is sometimes not enough, though it can help a lot of people getting started when they have a problem getting accustomed to the way an o/r mapper works.

Also, some people start with .NET AND with LLBLGen Pro and then run into problems which often are related to the fact they're new to .NET too or even new to programming.

A separate forum for 'newbies' is IMHO not the way to go. When is someone not a newbie anymore? Every question asked should get an appropriate answer.

Though everyone has to realize: software engineering isn't always simple.

Frans are you sure this is a real person or just a bot.. from one of your competitors??

otherwise I could not imagine how they could write such things!

Ok may be I over-reacted a bit calling people freaking bots ... but

for sure I never bought a software with such a vital and helpful community around it!

So both thumbs up for a great peace of software and the support provided by the Solution Design Team!

Hi Adrian

I am not sure what was in my post that caused such a reaction.

Other forums have newbie sections.

Its up to Frans how he runs these forums and his answer made sense.

I will be more careful with my postings in the future to make sure they don't cause offence.

You should post what you want to post, I didn't take offence to your post, I just wanted to know to which threads you referred to wink . Could you still answer that question for me please?

The problem with forums which are for a given 'group' is that it's often unclear for the average user if s/he qualifies for the group or not. We also don't want to give the suggestion that you first have to grow out of the newbie status before you are allowed to post in the normal forums: everyone is equal to us, and if you have a question, just ask, we're happy to help, no matter how much of a veteran or newbie you are. simple_smile

I also think you have to split your forum section according to a single taxonomy if you want to still be able to correctly group the corresponding thread.

Obviously the current taxonomy concerns the various parts/ development processes of the product.

Now if we want to add cross-referenced categories such as "difficulty level", "question nature", "answer quality" "knowledge pertinence" "interesting code samples" etc..., open and searchable "tags" would probably make a flexible way to implement it.

Maybe an idea for next version.

My 2 cents...

I like how the forums are set up. There shouldn't be a "new users" forum as I doubt most experienced users would end up looking in there, and the new users would end up without the help they could get by just posting in the normal forums.

Thats all simple_smile

I fully agree with that !

Again dregs, sorry for my offence! I read it just after DauntlessDavid posted some of his cynical thought!
