I've been reading through the LLBLGen Pro Documentation and it references "It is still wise to look up methods in the shipped LLBLGen Pro reference manual which also contains the reference manual for the ORM support classes. The LLBLGen Pro reference manual gives you detailed insight in what a method does, what a given property does and what their purposes are." Where do I find this? I've looked in the C:\Program Files\Solutions Design\LLBLGen Pro v2.0\Reference Manuals.NET 2.0 and find none. David Kennedy

I use version 1.0, and the reference manual is in the "C:\Program Files\Solutions Design\LLBLGen Pro" directory. Is is called LLBLGenProReferenceManual.chm

Maybe do a search for this file?

Under the start menu for LLBLGen Pro v2.0 there is a shortcut to LLBLGen Pro v2.0 Reference manual for .NET 2.0 Readme. It will explain how to access the reference manual for 2.0.

LLBLGen Pro v2.0 Reference manual for .NET 2.0

The .NET 2.0 runtime libraries reference manual is for VS.NET 2005 / MSDN help v2 system. To be able to read the help, please run registerhelp2.bat. This should install the help in the VS.NET 2005 help index/contents tree. To remove the reference manual help, run unregisterhelp2.bat.

It's also available in the customer area. Click v2.0 at the left, scroll down to the documentation section. You can there download the .NET 2.0 reference manual in .chm format. The LLBLGen Pro reference manual for .NET 2.0 comes in VS.NET 2005 format, so it's available in VS.NET 2005. The LLBLGen Pro reference manual for .NET 1.x comes in .chm format.

As I mentioned I found the "registerhelp2.bat" and ran it but nothing happened. I then started VS.NET 2005 Professional and looked at the Dropdown list box of their "Contents" there was nothing there like LLBLGen Pro" or "Solutions Design". What am I supposed to see after running registerhelp2.bat?

In the Contents (without having a filter set) you should see: LLBLGen.Pro.v2.Reference.Manual.NET2x

We had reports that VS.NET sometimes refuses to register the help. We can't reproduce this with our vs.net installations though. As it is unfortunate that people can't read essential helpfiles, and also because the VS.NET helpsystem can be tedious at times, we also offer the reference manual in Microsoft Help 2.0 format (the well known .chm format). You can download this file from the customer area: log into the customer area, click the 'v2.0' link at the left, then browse down to the Documentation section and download "LLBLGen Pro reference manual for .NET 2.x, CHM version". This is the same data.

We don't ship the .chm file with the installer as it's over 4MB.

I had a problem registering the manual in VS 2005 and found a solution. simple_smile

It will not work to run registerhelp2.bat from Explorer (the working directory is incorrect).

The bat file has to be run from the command prompt after switching to the directory where the bat file is located.

If you are running Windows Vista (which I am), be sure to run the command prompt as administrator.

If VS 2005 is running, you will need to close and restart it for the help to appear.

Updated the readme.txt with this info, which will automatically be available in the next build.

What doesn't work for you? Do you use Llbl v2 or 1?

What doesn't work for you?

Registering the reference manual from the command prompt (the fix mentioned above) doesn't work for me, I use LLBL 2. It's no real problem as I have downloaded the chm file from the customer area instead.

When I open the CHM file it does not matter what topic I select from the topic list I get the "This program cannot display this webpage" message. I am using the version created:

Any ideas?

From http://www.llblgen.com/helpdesk/quickfaq.asp#24

Question: After downloading the LLBLGen Pro reference manual .CHM file, I can't open it, it always gives an error. What's wrong?

Solution: It has something to do with an IE security hotfix. Please see this link for details on how to fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902225/en-us

Thanks. I followed the instructions in the MS KB article which were basically:

  1. Double-click the .chm file.
  2. In the Open File-Security Warning dialog box, click to clear the Always ask before opening this file check box.
  3. Click Open.

The file still didn't work.

When I copied the file off of the network and onto a local drive it worked beautifully.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, reading .chm files over a network boundary marks them as 'html files in the internet zone', which them makes them unreadable. Microsoft's security at work wink

Old topic, new version. In LLBLGen Pro Runtime Framework v3.0.chm, under "Generated code - Databinding with ASP.NET 2.0 and higher, SelfServicing", the discussion of LLBLGenProDataSource mentions a reference manual a couple of times:

"To learn more about the specific properties of the LLBLGenProDataSource control, please consult the LLBLGen Pro reference manual for the LLBLGenProDataSource control...".

No such manual exists in my installation of LLBLGen Pro 3.0, and I have been unable to find one on the website. This thread seems to be the only forum reference to it, and it's dealing with documentation for v2.0 and earlier.

Please advise where I can get the reference manual for v3.0.

Thanks, Fred

Hey Fred, long time no see simple_smile

The reference manual is available online on the website, as the file is really big, so we didn't want to include it in the installer. See 'additional downloads' on the website to get a hold on it (public area) or in the customer area under 'documentation'.
