Frans,

Any news about Sybase driver?

I almost use SQL Server; but I have a customer that use Sybase and I would like to use LLBLGen Pro with the projects that I develop for them.

Sybase isn't going to be supported until a free developer database download exists. That seems to be the plan in their upcoming version. However, we have no plans for LLBLGen Pro to support Sybase yet.

That is a pity.

Looking at the Sybase site, it's hard to understand what their DB is: ASE or Anywhere...

Anyway, what we need is a dev version so we can compile our code against it. They still can't provide that.

Frans,

Check the following: http://www.sybase.com/products/mobilesolutions/sqlanywhere

There they have a link to download a SQL anywhere 10 developer edition.

In this link: http://www.sybase.com/linuxpromo

You can download a ASE express edition for Linux. The only problem that I see is that you need a computer with Linux to act as server; but after that you can do access from windows client (if the download include the .Net drivers).

What would be great is that the driver to access SQL anywhere were the same to access ASE server, this way you can develop the LLBLGen driver using SQL anywhere.

Yes I saw the linux offer, we just don't have a linux server available at the moment. It's not just now, but we need to have it available for testing the code as well. I know virtual server could handle this, but we're not linux experts of any kind. I know how to operate linux from my unix knowledge from a few years back but how to setup sybase on linux will be a different ballgame.

Hi,

Again, Any news about Sybase driver?

As far as i know sybase has 3 well known database servers

1- Adaptive Server Enterprise (http://www.sybase.com/products/databasemanagement/adaptiveserverenterprise) 2- SQL Anywhere (http://www.ianywhere.com) 3- Advantage Database Server (http://www.advantagedatabase.com)

This Link (http://www.ianywhere.com/downloads/) provides

SQL Anywhere Developer Edition - Free Download, No Time Limit Advantage Database Server - Free 30-Day Trial

I think SQL Anywhere is the most important (at least for me) And really as you said before "Sybase is very similar to sqlserver, so supporting it won't be that hard"

My IT Manager interest in sybase mainly because it provides a built-in database encryption, i think none of the db supported by llblgen has the same future (may be except oracle). In fact many of the commercial dbs doesnt support this future which is really important in the mean time

-it protects the db from the untrusted db admins -save you from the headache of implementing data encryption on critical columns -protect the Intellectual property of the db designs in the large systems

I really dont understand the real reason of providing a master dba password for most commercial db systems

Thanks for the links! I didn't know sybase now had a free dev download of their db's. I'm not sure if targeting sqlanywhere will make it work on ADS and ASE as well, but we can always try simple_smile

Thanks

We'll try to add support for it in v2.1, which isn't out yet.
