I have to say Firefox 1.5 feels much snappier than previous. Anyone else experiencing that? The release notes say the page render time has improved, but I never believe that kind of stuff when I read it. Feels like it is though...

You know... I have firefox on my machine, but I never use it. I'm stuck in my Microsoft rut.

Just installed 1.5 myself and I agree that it seems much snappier. Unfortunately many of my extensions have been disabled because they are not compatible with 1.5. rage Hopefully they will be updated over the next couple of weeks. I can't live without my favorite extensions.

It's indeed much faster, only a few plugin's didn't work but I didn't use them anyway so that wasn't a big of a problem. Be sure to download the latest adblock plugin from their forums (not the mozilla site, that one has an oldie).

Now I only hope the author of launchy gets his act together and release a new version so links to streams will open in windows media player.

Paul: browsing with IE isn't that safe, even if you're visiting regular sites: you'll never know what kind of crap an ad-agency is installing at your box via an iframe (which looks like a banner).

I used to have the same problem that certain sites had to be browsed using IE (example, Oulook Web-Access for our exchange server works best in IE and our local radio station plays inside a media player than only shows if using IE!!). For this I use the (IE view) plugin. I just set a page that must always be viewed with IE and whenever I use FireFox to view this page it would launch it in IE.

For those of you with extentions that haven't been updated for the latest version you want the Nightly Tester Tools extention (http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave/web/firefox/buildid/nightly.html) which will force your favorite extentions to install on the lastest firefox. A few extentions may actually break, but most will work fine.

Omar and others, check out IE Tab. I used to use IE View as well but I didn't care it poping up a page viewed in ie in the ie browser. IE tab will actually display the ie page within the firefox browser itself. You can easily switch back and forth betweeen the browsers without leaving firefox. From what I understand, IE tab is built ontop of IE view.

Gosh! I need IE Tab for the same reasons. I did a quick search but failed to find it. Can you supply the URL?

For IE Tab try this: "https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1419"

Though doesn't IE tab open up your system to the same vulnerabilities as normal IE does? I mean, all it does is dumping the IE render control onto a form. simple_smile

Installed 1.5 - all my extensions worked simple_smile

As for IE Tab, I;ve been using it for ages - its fantastic for those annoying sites that refuse to work well in IE, but Frans is right, its open to all the same vulnerabilities as regular IE..

If ony firfox would load faster....although the only reason IE loads so fast is that 90% of its components are pre-loaded into memory on system startup disappointed

Frans, I use IE Tab mainly on sites that won't display the IE media player inside FF. For example, msdn.microsoft.com. I like to watch msdn tv, the net show and webcasts from Microsoft but couldn't get the media player to render in the FF browser. Your right about security, but I didn't have a choice.

I prefer to download those shows to watch them. I do this for the main reason that I can't resize the video as it plays in the browser. And, at my 1600x1200 resolution it is just to small in its default size.

Ok, so now I only have 3 extensions not working. Pluck, Wizz Encrypted Bookmarks and RoboForm. All others have been updated. Cool. Now if the last three update I would be happy. sunglasses sunglasses

OK, I did have another option simple_smile but I prefer not to download these types of files as I have a limited hd space.

One small thing I noticed since upgrading is that the "top" link at the bottom right of each message in this forum doesn't always work for me. Anyone else having this problem?

Haven't noticed it. (works always here, in ff1.5 final). I did notice that some javascript submit stuff doesn't work anymore... (not on this forum, in another app)

Hmm, well now it works for me too. If it happens again I'll try to discover what the special path is.
