Hey Guys,

Just thought i'd throw this up here and see if anyones had any experience with using 3D charting control in your apps.

We need to be able to do a surface model, XYZ scatter and preferably be able to supply each data point with a 4D set which can be used to display quality information for each of the points.

I'm currently lookin at the Component 1 Charting Tool as if does all of the above but the help/support is a big problem here. Also there's no 3D acceleration which may become a problem somewhere down the track.

The only other one the seem to offer the same thing was from Steema, but again lack of updates and support make me a bit worried about this one.

Any feedback you have on these or other controls would be greatly appriciated.

Cheers,

Daniel

have a look at DundasChart and ChartFx. Be warned that these two are the best in their field but are really expensive.

We use Dundas. Its pretty powerful, but we hit a limit with its capabilities, which considering the price, is surprising. ChartFX does a lot more but you pay through the roof for that.

Also take a look at dotnetcharting - nice, and recently, I came across:

http://www.nevron.com

Who make some pretty slick looking graphs - you wont find a more powerful rendering engine than that one simple_smile

Interesting... so if you get to a chance to buy your choice of a charting tool with price NOT being an issue... what would be your choice. And If I may, what kind of charting you are doing???

I've had a look at nevron and it looks very nice, i think thats the front runner at the moment. I'll have a play around with Chartfx over the next couple of days.

The app i'm creating is a 3D stockpile managment system, it will map bulk products such as coal, iron ore as they are stacked and reclaimed onto stockpiles. Each block will have it's own quality set so we need to be able to see what qualities are where within the 3D space. It's going to have a large dataset so performace will be an issue in regards to charting, with Nevron being in OpenGL it should be able to handle it though.

Hi Daniel,

How did you get on with Nevron? I'm interested because we use dundas and I'm wordering if we should swap - we need "high visual impact" graphing, and nevron looks the part!!

Also have a look at ComponentArt's new chart control which I think is still in Beta, thats pretty impressive too.

Just an update on the charts, we went with Nevron and have been very happy with version 3.1. Version 4 has just been released but installing it breaks everything.

The actual procuct itself is great, really powerful in terms of the 3D stuff we're doing as long as the datasets aren't huge( but we're working on ways around this ). The support hasn't been great though, their forums/doco don't come close to LLBL's and it makes a big difference in productivity ( <3 these forums smile ).
