I am curious if there would be any interest in creating another Forum category for Code Sharing? It would be nice to be able to go to a category to look for great code or llblgen projects to share with the community. What are your thoughts?

Wade

Sounds ok, however I'm not going to add a file upload feature at the moment, so storing a file here is not/will not be possible.

Good idea! We could setup a yahoo group (or something else will less commercials cry ) to store attachments.

Does this mean that you will add this feature in the furture? or does this mean you will never add it?

I could open up some ftp space for you guyssimple_smile ...but i am not sure if i should. - It's to much of a risk with all the warez floating around.disappointed

A better idea would be to add file upload capability per message via the forum. - So that file content can be verified to be source code before storing it. - So i guess we will just have to wait until Otis adds this functionality to the forum.

I'll probably never add it, as it requires us to check/verify every .zip which is uploaded to prevent a user to upload warez, porn or other crap. This is too much of a burden.

To work around this, we offer customers to share their work via the 3rd party section of the customer area, so we can first screen the archives posted and upload it.

You could do it like Eric Smith does on his codesmith forums. He only allows zip files less then 100k. No person in the right mind is going to upload warez through a PRIVATE forum through HTTP in 100k chunks! stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye 100k might even be a bit much for a code snipplet, then for larger things such as a project or something, we could submit it simple_smile

The forum isn't private, the demo contains a link to it simple_smile

I see your point, but I don't trust 3rd party uploads, even if they're 32KB, as they're on our server and we're thus responsible.

Hi All LLBLGen users.

After a lot of thought i decided to open some ftp space for you guys.

Please note that the llblgenguest account is allowed a total of 5MB hard disk space and 20 connections. I know 5MB is not much but it is the only way that i can prevent people from uploading tons of Porn, Warez and other crap to the server. 5 Mb should be more than enough for source code uploads - so please make sure that you only upload source files and not binaries unless the binaries are required. When the need arises for more disk space i will review the use of the service.

The upload of files to server will be monitored on a daily so please use this service wisely or i will otherwise be forced to close this account. If any abuse of this ftp service is noticed by you as a user please report it to Admin@netready.co.za - Everyone making use of this ftp service have the right to delete any material that they might find on the ftp service that does not have any bearing to LLBLGen.

Wayne Barker, Admin@Netready.co.za and the Owners of the server on which this ftp service resides reserves the right to alter or close this account without notifying any users there off. The ftp service is not be used in any commercial or illegal manner.

How to use the ftp space in conjunction to the LLBLGen forum? Upload the file to the ftp server and post a url in the forum to the source code.

Here is the connection details:

ftp://196.36.190.121/LLBLGEN/
Username : llblgenguest
Password : treeboat

DO NOT GIVE THIS ACCOUNT DETAILS OUT TO NON LLBLGEN USERS!!!

Otis - don't know if you want to - but you could post the details about this service in the annoucement section. It does not seem possible to post a ftp link in this forum - only http?

MODBREAK: this offer is not in any way related to Solutions Design, LLBLGen Pro or llblgen.com.

Nice offer, Wayne simple_smile

I've added a disclaimer to your posting simple_smile . ftp is not recognized indeed by the UBB parser...

I'd like to add though that the preferred way to share modified templates is to mail us and let us share them in the customer area in the 3rd party section.

<whine> Awwww, only 5MB? Guess I'm gonna have to post my l33t war3z elsewhere.

In other news, aren't the forums public now? Wayne, did you just give Joe Bob Hacker in Spokane, WA a valid password to your server?

Jeff...

Yes, i guess so...That is a guest account with no privledges except for the ftp login access to that one folder. Having an user account is better than having anonymouse users access with upload capability.

The forums are public for the people who downloaded the demo, the link is not exposed to the outside world. THey're also public for all customers of course, which are becoming a big crowd now.

If the total space is 5MB there is not a big problem.

Personally I'd limit the size to 1MB now and increase it eventually if people are asking for more.
